We have had the best week together as a family! Having Chris home with us for his vacation is such a treat - and I have been taking full advantage of having the extra pair of hands; we adventured all over Boston and beyond! I definitely could feel a change in the air though - and am slightly mourning the end of summer!
We wanted to do as much as we could before London heads to Pre-K in a few weeks, so we took day trips to the museum, the zoo, and also decided to attend Riverfest in Gloucester! It was free and open to the public - right on the water and the weather ended up being PERFECT! It was such a family-friendly event; there were lots of food trucks, amazing live music, bouncy houses (which London loved), and lots of fun, interactive tents to check out!
One tent we wanted to check out was the U.Fund Dreams Tour tent - where the girls could get creative with the photo booth and do some coloring while we learned more about the benefits of a college savings fund. We have one set up for London - and while we have a regular savings account set up for Malia - we have yet to open her educational savings account. It’s so easy to keep putting something like this off - because life gets in the way, because college may seem so far in the future for your kids, or because you may not see the importance of it, but with the cost of tuition continuing to rise, planning NOW will give you the head start that you need for the future!
The U.Fund College Investing Plan is offered by MEFA and managed by Fidelity Investments. MEFA is a nonprofit that seeks to make higher education more affordable for families and has been doing so for more than 35 years! If you save early by making regular monthly investments in a tax-advantaged account it can make a big difference. In a graphic provided by the team at the U.Fund tent, I learned that saving even just $50 a month could be worth approximately $23,000 in twenty years.
I LOVE the fact that family and friends can contribute to your child(ren)’s account with online college gifting. This makes it super easy for everyone!
It’s never too early to start saving. We’re super excited to support both of our girls, just by putting away a small amount each month. If you’re interested in learning more or opening an account for your little one, go here.
I wanted to share some other fun Fall activities for you and the entire family, since September is just around the corner! Last year, we went to “Boo at the Zoo” for the first time and had an absolutely BLAST! There is another Riverfest event happening at Assembly Row on September 14th and if you haven’t been to Assembly Row, there are a bunch of outlets and yummy restaurants! Also, farther down on the list is the SoWa Winter Festival in the South End neighborhood of Boston and this is a MUST! It’s such a beautiful time of year - and this is something you can do with the whole family or make it a girls day!
Also, if you are in the craze of back-to-school and missed my post about ways to save - you can read that here!
Hope you all have the best week!
