Let's face it ... it's tough to find time to sneak in a workout when you're "momming." I'm lucky if I make it to the gym a few times a week now. Things always seem to pop up; your baby is sick, sleep schedules are off, you're exhausted, and just can't seem to get it together. I'll be honest, in the Summer I like to take advantage of the amazing weather as much as possible and luckily, London loves to go for walks in the stroller. I've had to get creative with workouts + some days I do a 30-min interval (run/walk) workout, go for a longgg slow walk, or mix in a walk with some strength-training / body-weight exercises.
Here are a few exercises you can do while out strolling with your little:
Squats: Stand behind the stroller, holding on to the bar with your feet just outside of shoulder-width apart. Squat down to a "sitting position" as if you were to sit in an imaginary chair and return to standing. Squeeze those flutes at the top! That's one rep. Do 15 reps x 3 sets. (I like to do one set, walk for about 30 seconds, do the next set, and so on. London can't handle being at a standstill for too long)
Walking Lunges: Stand behind the stroller with your feet shoulder-width apart. Lunge forward with your right leg while simultaneously pushing the stroller out in front of you. Alternate legs until you have done 10 reps on each leg. Do 3 sets. This is a great exercise because you can keep the stroller moving and your kiddo(s) happy :)
Calf Raises: Stand behind the stroller, hold onto the handbar and put your feet side by side. Slowly rise up to your tip-toes and return back down, but hover over the ground. Don't let your feet hit the ground. Do 15 reps, 3 sets.
Leg Lifts: Stand behind or to the side of the stroller. Lift your right leg straight back with your foot flexed, squeezing your booty at the top of each movement. Repeat 12 times. Do this on each leg x 3 sets.
By this time your legs should be feeling REAL good. If there is a playground nearby, or one that you can work your way toward during the workout ... you can accomplish LOTS of work there too. Typically there are benches where you can do pushups and dips. You can also do sit-ups and planks and if you're needing MORE leg work ... try some step-ups on the bench as well!
What are some ways that you like to workout with your baby? Let me know so I can incorporate those moves into my routine!
