Feeling pretty thankful today. Especially thankful for my mom...who embodied what it means to be “mom” in every sense of the word: she taught us what’s truly important, showed us patience, grace and LOVE at all times...has always been our biggest cheerleader and transitioned into my very best friend. I only hope and pray I can be that for my girls! So thankful for my better half - who supports me in every way and allows me to mess up, but loves me through it every time. It’s not always easy or pretty but it’s THE ABSOLUTE BEST and most important job we can do, is to love our babies. Sending hugs to all of the mamas today...those who are desiring to me a mom, and those that have dealt with loss and pain as well. I cried every day, multiple times a day the first 8 weeks of London’s life. I felt completely overwhelmed with my new role as “mommy” - something I had dreamt of being my whole life - and felt guilty that I was feeling (to keep it real) pretty miserable. Now that I’m almost 4 years into motherhood, I wish I could go back and talk to me as a new mom. I’d tell that girl to breathe...I’d tell her that it’s ok and normal to feel this way and that it isn’t a sign of weakness or failure. I’d tell her that it gets better; That one day she’ll wake up and the fog will be lifted, she’ll get her groove back and find herself again. It’s #maternalmentalhealth week and if there are any new mama’s reading this, I just want you to know that you aren’t alone! Don’t be afraid to reach out for help if you need it! There is a light at the end of the dark, hormonal, crazy-emotional tunnel! I see you! I love you! We now have a sitter that comes to the house and gives me half a day to myself once a week and I don’t even know what to do with my time. Last week I went to a cafe, got myself a coffee and ate a warm chocolate chip cookie. It felt like a vacation😂...I’m sure I’ll start to do cooler things as we get further into this new schedule! Ha! Chris has been gone all weekend and yesterday was one of those days I was counting down the minutes to bedtime. Last night, I had my mind made up it would be too exhausting to adjust nap times, prep the diaper bag, pack up the girls and head into the city this morning for church. I woke up and the first thing my 3.5 year old said to me was “ARE WE GOING TO CHURCH TODAY?!??” ...not in like the “I hope we aren’t” type of voice but the “I’M HOPEFUL you’re going to say yes” one. (Ok God, I see you!) I smiled and said “we sure are!” Ended up having the best morning - got to spend it with one of my best friends @kdelsignore45, listened to @joshkimes preach (ITS NOT OVER!...awkward, had to be there), then had a lunch date with Katie and my little crew. I guess the moral of the story is London should always make the plans. Anyone else find themselves staring at their kids while they sleep like “OMG you’re so sweet.
